LaserSystem-SABER

Cubix LaserSystem and SABER (Secure Access Baseline for the EnterpRise) deliver the fastest 3D graphics to multiple displays from distant secure computers located in the datacenter.

LaserSystem-SABER preserves the DODIIS (Department of Defense Intelligence Information System) Trusted Workstation software infrastructure that maintains segregation of differing security classification and sensitivity levels on a single computer, without a computer at the operator's desk.

LaserSystem-SABER preserves the DODIIS (Department of Defense Intelligence Information System) Trusted Workstation software infrastructure that maintains segregation of differing security classification and sensitivity levels on a single computer, without a computer at the operator's desk.

LaserSystem-SABER allows a cost saving by reducing the need for separate hardware systems dedicated to running compartmented applications.

One LaserSystem-SABER can replace from three to as many as ten separate dedicated computers.

Designed for power users and visualization workers that require high performance, real-time 3D graphics, LaserSystem-SABER utilizes Sun™ Trusted Solaris™ 10 TX with thick client trusted extensions.

LaserSystem-SABER consists of two hardware components: LaserCube and LaserBlade that are designed to solve the bandwidth problems with running high-resolution applications over distance. Secure fiber optic cabling connects a LaserCube to a LaserBlade.

LaserCube, located next to the operator’s displays, is a compact “headless” device that has no CPU or disk. LaserCube contains Graphics Processor Units (GPUs such as NVIDIA® Quadro™ FX 1800/3800/4800/5800 series graphics controllers), audio ports and USB 2.0 ports for mouse, keyboard, and CAC card readers.

LaserCube’s local graphics processing produces amazing graphics performance and provides the ability to support as many as 8 displays per operator. Since the graphics adapters are local, no video compression is needed. LaserCube delivers all of the pixels for perfect images at the highest resolutions with immediate real-time responsiveness.

LaserBlade, located in the secure data center near Sun Ray™ Session Servers and Terminal Servers, is a workstation class computer capable of supporting dual Intel® Quad Core Xeon® processors, up to 96 GB RAM, multiple SAS drives and four independent Gbit Ethernet ports with security separation.

LaserBlade has the processing and I/O horsepower to run Multi Level Security of simultaneous instances of multiple applications—all on one blade computer. LaserSystem-SABER provides a single desktop experience with secure access to multiple security enclaves without having to compromise on graphics performance.

LaserSystem-SABER and Trusted Solaris 10 TX

Sun’s Trusted Solaris operating system has been in existence for almost 20 years. Trusted Solaris 10 TX has the highest operating system rating with an EAL-4 (Evaluation Assurance Level). Thus, it has the most complete set of trusted functionality of any certified operating system, with the unique ability to implement label-based security with hierarchical and compartmented modes. Each LaserSystem-SABER runs Trusted Solaris 10 TX.

LaserSystem-SABER can be used as a point-to-point solution independent of virtualized machine support or as a complement to Sun’s DTW virtualized server systems with Sun Ray thin client appliances. The thin-client Sun Ray appliance is designed for productivity and administrative workers running office applications without demanding graphics output. The thick-client LaserSystem-SABER is designed for power users and visualization workers that need real-time responsive 3D graphics performance.

LaserSystem-SABER provides the same benefits as the Sun Ray thin-client appliance plus these additional benefits:

  • Diskless desktop with minimal maintenance
  • Small footprint
  • Quiet, low power operation
  • Improved security
  • Ability to display multi-level secure applications

LaserSystem-SABER adds the following benefits:

  • Local GPU processing for real-time 3D performance
  • Superior 3D displays at fast frame rates
  • Highest 3D resolution support available today
  • Multiple GPUs for up to 8 displays per operator
  • USB 2.0 peripheral support at the desktop
  • PCIe/PCI bus slot at the desktop for specialized adapters

 LaserSystem-SABER

Common to both LaserSystem-SABER and Sun Ray is Trusted Solaris 10 TX and the ability to run remote desktop protocols from terminal server sessions. Unique to LaserSystem-SABER is the ability to run dedicated thick-client applications to maximize performance.

The Challenge

Command Center operators are becoming more visually oriented and demand real time graphics performance.  Growth trends for larger and higher resolution displays are growing rapidly. Today’s young workers and operators grew up using Nintendo® and Microsoft® Xbox® and they are now running critical missions in Command and Control Centers.  They demand and deserve to get the highest quality, highest performing 3D graphics at their mission stations.

Meanwhile, IT project managers are tasked with securing data to protect classified intelligence without compromising graphics performance.  They also want to reduce costs.  That’s quite a challenge.

But Cubix LaserSystem-SABER meets the challenge—secure, space-efficient, cost-effective, featuring the fastest processing and graphics performance!

Uniquely powerful LaserSystem-SABER delivers real time 3D graphics from centralized blade PCs.

LaserSystem-SABER (Secure Access Baseline for the EnterpRise) is the trusted workstation solution for today’s Command and Control operations centers.
