CubixVision Management

CubixVision LaserBlade Management

Cubix LaserBlades are designed with multiple layers of management that provide simple and secure navigation to Cubix blade resources, detailed hardware monitoring, and remote hardware control such as power up/down and hard reset functions. CubixVision is an application that an administrator (admin) can run on any network-connected computer and access the CubixVision Management Controller (CMC) to monitor and manage LaserBlades. The CMC is available in two forms: a rack mount blade and a shelf mount module.

CubixVision User Interface

CubixVision is a management console that provides an enterprise view of all blades in an easy-to-understand graphical context. One of the key benefits of CubixVision is its intuitive display. Designed for navigation via a Java application on the desktop, CubixVision enables administrators to monitor their LaserBlade hardware assets as a detailed graphical view. By reading embedded product identifiers, CubixVision depicts various blade server configurations, differentiating enclosures and blades with varying contents.

Function and Use

Network administrators use CubixVision to navigate all connected LaserBlades and enclosures. An admin can locate a particular site, rack, enclosure and blade with a few mouse clicks. Once an admin has located a specific blade, the admin can view blade status, reset a blade or power a blade up or down.

CubixVision Functions

  • Enables an administrator to monitor global deployments of LaserBlades from one or more Network Operation Centers (NOCs).

  • Enables an administrator to control LaserBlades: power up, power down and reset.

  • Provides notifications and alerts of overheating conditions, fan failures, fan speed threshold violations and low power supply voltages.

CubixVision Management Controller Options

The CubixVision Management Controller (CMC) is available in a blade or a module that connects to as many as 4 enclosures with 8 LaserBlades each. The blade occupies the space of one single-wide LaserBlade in the rackmount enclosure. The module is smaller and fits on a shelf or atop an enclosure. The network administrator accesses the CMC across the network or across the Internet. See the illustration below.

Architecture

Cubix LaserBlade management architecture employs a CubixVision Management Controller (CMC) Blade that uses serial cables to star connect to as many as 4 enclosures with 8 LaserBlades each. The CMC also has an Ethernet port. The network administrator can run CubixVision to access the CMC across the network, an intranet or the Internet via the CMC's Ethernet port.

Within each LaserBlade enclosure is an Enclosure Management Hub (EMH). Each blade has a LaserBlade Management Adapter (LMA) with sensors. The LMA holds data collected by its sensors. The LMAs provide no data path to the host blade. See the illustration below.
